David stopped talking to his girlfriend because he didn't know how to handle the situation. It ravages them like an F Five hurricane. Many families ask if marijuana is a gateway drug. In his experience, he's never seen anyone go from smoking marijuana to shooting drugs. For him, the gateway to harder drugs and self-medicating the pain is trauma.[00:09:37] - In the best-case scenario, one in three or one in four people are touched by addiction. Whether in themselves or someone they know well or peripherally. The numbers are a lot stronger than they were before because of the pandemic of addiction and mental health disorders.[00:10:52] - David and his ex-wife are both recovering alcoholics. She wants to get certified as a recovery coach to help other families. She goes through a checklist of their social life, their finances, their relationships, their job status and their attitude to help them change their lives.[00:15:43] - It takes time to recover from an addiction. It's more of a mental problem than a physical one. The recovery comes from not having an obsessive thought to use in a long time. The pandemic was not planned and so maneuvering through unplanned moments plays a big part in the recovery.[00:19:06] - David and Dana help people struggling with addiction. David and Dana are trying to shed light on the problem and help people to find a solution to their problems. Dr. Thomas's friend with the same type of diabetes lived until he was nearly 95 years old, and he avoided doctors.[00:07:42] - There are healthier options for deodorant. My grandpa used baking soda to deodorize. I wrote a book called Preventable Five Powerful Practices to not only avoid disease but Build Unshakable Health. What suicide attempts and what suicide can do to people.[00:01:44] - Sonia Wasden is the author of An Impossible Life a memoir of a personal journey going through mental health challenges. She has bipolar obsessive-compulsive and anxiety disorder. Her father died of suicide. One of her siblings committed suicide. She dealt with a client whose nephew committed suicide in a halfway house.[00:04:01] - According to today's author, she hid her mental illness for over 20 years because of the stigma. She was married to the hospital CEO, living in a beautiful home with three beautiful children, and attending charity events. But behind closed doors, her life held darker store lines. She had gained over 100lbs through emotional eating. She was tipping the scales at 250 in a manic episode. She spent over $150000 on credit cards. She bought a washer and dryer. Her dad died from suicide, and she felt like her life had no purpose. She tried to take her own life, but her husband found her and saved her life.[00:07:14] - As a child, children feel good about themselves. As we get older, we start to get more self-doubting and compare ourselves with other people. 80% of our thoughts are negative and 95% are repetitive. We have to deal with negative thoughts that come anyway. It's one thing to heal and to work on happiness. It's another thing to put the story out in front of people.[00:16:39] - Sonja wants to speak to more youth groups about mental health awareness. She wants to go to middle schools, high schools, poor areas, middle-income high schools, and upper income. She would like to go abroad as well. [00:10:19] - 80% of chronic disease, diabetes, and heart disease is preventable. 40% of cancers are preventable. But people only get motivated when they get a bad diagnosis. The quality of their life in the second half of the last 50 years is going to be determined by the actions they took in the first 50 years. The biggest impact is if she can get in with picture books early to kids to change stereotypes the way they think.[00:19:46] - There are only 4% of surgeons in Australia are women. When she did her surgical training more than 20 years ago, she was the first to do a particular specialty in South Australia. She never had the opportunity to work with a female surgeon through the whole of her medical school and surgical training after more than 15 years.
